DRIVING INFORMATION

We’re located 45-60 minutes from Tucson with the last few miles being on dirt road in the middle of the desert.

The nearest commercial airport is Tucson International Airport

Driving Directions: Exit I19 at Sahuarita Rd and head west to Mission Road. Take Mission Road north, then left on Ocotillo Ranch Road. Continue following the pavement until it ends. Turn left (south) on the dirt road. Stay on the main dirt road until you reach the security gate for Flying Diamond Airpark. Training hangar will be on your right, a block before you come to the runway.

KEEP IN MIND WHEN DRIVING

  • Allow plenty of time to make your way to the training hangar. It often takes longer than people think
  • Cell phone service is limited and often spotty
  • Participants should arrive at the training hangar no later than 7:45am on Day 1 to complete check-in paperwork
  • The nearest services are at I19 and Sahuarita Road – approximately 25 minutes away

FLY-IN PROCEDURES

Fly-In Request Form

6AZ8 is private airstrip that requires liability insurance, a prior permission request form and pilot briefing from the airport manager.

KEEP IN MIND WHEN FLYING IN

  • No night operations at 6AZ8 – day VFR only
  • Class starts promptly at 8am. Participants should arrive at the training hangar no later than 7:45am on Day 1 to complete check-in paperwork
  • Tie down area is approximately a 10 minute walk from Training Hangar
  • Tiedown anchors are rustic and located on the west end of the runway on the north shoulder.
  • Pilots encouraged to bring their own tie downs; tie down chains are limited
  • There are no shade-ports or hangars available for course participants

LUNCH

  • Lunch is provided for both instructional days.
  • Dietary Concerns: If you have dietary restrictions, allergies or sensitivities, please feel free to bring your own lunch. We have a kitchen on-site with a refrigerator and microwave available.

WEAR

  • Closed-toe shoes REQUIRED
  • Please wear comfortable clothing for working in an airplane hangar/shop environment without central cooling or heating ie; layers
  • Expect bending, standing, and sitting

CAMPING

Camping Request Form

Camping is first come first served and requires prior approval. Camping is free, but does not include dinner, breakfast or ground transportation. Hangar bathroom and shower available with a security deposit of $100. Camping is in undeveloped desert acreage.
